Freshfields case study:
Client and Objective
London Quest were asked by magic circle law firm Freshfields to put together an afternoon activity for potential graduate recruits. The aim of the activity was to provide an informal environment for potential graduates to enjoy themselves, see London and show off their skills as researchers and orators.

The Quest
The teams of graduate recruits were each given a sealed briefcase with a set of clues inside. They then had to follow a further set of clues delivered by a Quest representative to find a code to unlock the briefcase.

Once inside the briefcase the real fun began, each team had to travel around the City locating characters from the 18th Century. Each character told a different story with historical significance that related to the ownership of Smithfield’s Market. Once they found the characters the recruits had to interrogate them. The characters ranged from the Monk Rahere of the Parish of St Giles (a church notorious for its support of the communities of little repute, surrounding the River Fleet) to a young boy who was digging graves and selling the bodies to St Barts for research. Not far from the scene they met Maid Molly from the Bakers Livery Company and Lady Chiltern from the Fishmongers, both companies who had strong claims to the area because of historic traditions. Finally, we must not forget William Hogarth, who was reciting poetry from the period. The recruits drew as much information as they could and pieced together a case that would see them defend one of the characters in the London Quest courtroom.

Accusations were cast and the Quest representative finally summed up announcing the winning team from the afternoon’s activity.
